SuperPod began as The Southampton Super-Pod back in March 2017, when 16 podcasts came together to take part in a 36 hour live non-stop podcast marathon. We had podcasts live and in person at the Grand Harbour Hotel in Southampton, with others calling in and joining remotely from South Wales, Finland, Canada and Australia! The event was a great success and raised over £1000 for Comic Relief.

After the success of the first SuperPod we decided we just had to do it again! It took a while to come up with a plan (blame having a baby) but SuperPod 2020 came live from The Social in Southampton in March 2020, this time with a Sporting twist as re raised money for Sport Relief. SuperPod 2020 was a 2 day podcast festival, again featuring 16 different podcast but this time every single one live at the venue, including our headline acts The Football Book Club, The Dredgeland Podcast Spectacular, SportSpiel and Life Goals with Theo Delaney. Also, for the first time, we streamed video of all the shows to Social Media!

SuperPod 3 saw us return to a comedy basis, and due to the pandemic it was an online-only event on Saturday 13th March 2021. 17 podcasts joined us for a wonderful day of podcasting, all streamed on social media and internet radio. Shows taking part included Cold Callers Comedy. MotherFunk, You Really Shouldn’t Have and The Comedy Arcade amongst others.

Hi, I’m Al, the man behind this whole nonsense. I was the host of the Ministry of Swooping: a Fake News Podcast, and the Dead Piett Society: a Weird News Podcast. I’m also founder of The Bear, internet radio station and podcast network.

As well as podcasting I’m also a keen football, baseball and wrestling fan. I’m keen on comics, country music and chocolate as well as burgers, bunnies and bourbon. And apparently alliteration. I’m a husband to Kitty, dad to Hunter and a Pointless finalist.

I first came up with the idea of the SuperPod in late 2016 after listening to a 24 hour charity podcast. We are now on our third iteration of the event and so far each one has been bigger and better than the last. I’m hoping that 2021 sees us raise even more money for Comic Relief than we’ve ever done before!
